Macbeth Act 3 Scene 6

This scene is another short scene but consists of long speeches and characters Lennox and Lord. Lennox talks first, saying how many bad events have happened recently and how wisely Macbeth has been dealing with them. He says ‘And the right-valiant Banquo walked too late, whom, you may say, if ’t please you, Fleance killed, For Fleance fled’. Here Lennox is saying he believes that Fleance must have killed his own father Banquo. He believes Macbeth about who murdered who completely. We learn that Macbeth killed the two servants who ‘killed’ Duncan, and Lennox says that is good because then at least they didn’t have to hear them try and deny their crime. Lennox also says he believes Macduff and Macbeth are not on good terms, as Macduff speaks up against him too much and didn’t come to his feast.

The Lord tells us that Malcolm is in England, and that the king there treats him with lots of respect. Macduff is now also apparently in England, and is asking King Edward for help to restore peace again. The Lord says Macbeth has heard about this and is so angry that he is preparing for war. Lennox asks the Lord if Macbeth has asked Macduff to come back to Scotland, and Lennox says yes, but Macduff said no. The Lord says he will keep Macduff in his prayers, which indicates that soon something bad will happen to him.
