This is a very short scene consisting of characters First, Second, and Third Murderer, Banquo and Fleance. The First and Second murderers enter and ask the third murderer who sent him, and he tells them it was Macbeth so they immediately trust him. They basically then wait until Banquo and Fleance come in with a torch and then jump and kill Banquo. While Banquo is getting murdered, he cries out ‘O treachery! Fly, good Fleance, fly, fly, fly! Thou may ’st revenge —O slave!’. Fleance runs and manages to escape when the light goes out. The murders realise that there is only one body, Banquos, and that Fleance escaped. Now they are going to have to tell Macbeth that they only got the job half done, and the son that can take the crown from him is still alive and running.
